An Exploding Box Wedding Card

On 15 February we were honoured to attend a wedding at "The Venue", Lake Wanaka.  It was a perfect day and everything was beautiful.  We were well looked after by the Bride and Groom's Parents.  "The Venue" and staff were amazing.


My mojo has been MIA over the past couple of months and the only creativity has been for gifts.  This is the card I made the happy couple.  The reason I made an exploding box card with a cake in it was to accommodate a special keepsake.  You may remember last year I made an easel card with a little horseshoe/bird on it - well it was from the mould of this original.  This original was on the groom's parents and grandparents' cake so this was my way of carrying on the tradition.

 Once the lid is lifted this is what appears.  The little pouches contain messages and the hidden gift of a prezzy card. 

 The top of the lid includes the date of the wedding. The cardstock is embossed with tiny butterflies.  The lace motif above is from my stash,

A close-up of the inside with the cake topped with a little treasure and trimmed with punched cardstock, pearl beaded ribbon, liquid pearls and flowers.  They seemed very pleased with the outcome.  

 

Quite a bit of work went into this mainly due to the missing mojo and being the first exploding box \I have made from scratch so a little trial and error.  It was lots of fun though and I was very pleased with the outcome.

A Heritage Layout

Another Finnabair inspired layout today.  I really like creating this style but I don't think they will be so good to put in albums - just a tad chunky.  This layout is of my Grandad and Mum probably early 1938. 

 Dad has been cleaning out his shed and all sorts of bits and bobs are coming my way so many of the nuts bolts and screws are from him and also the chain at the base of the photo.  Also Mum has been cleaning out her drawers and old costume jewellery bits have also been coming my way.  Spot the old diamante earrings and the metal butterfly.   Other embellishments and papers were left over from the generous kit we received at Finnabair's classes.  I still have enough for another couple of layouts.

 

 As I do not have a lot of stamps suitable for this style I just used inked bubble wrap to add some interest to the base.

 

I hope your weekend is going well.  A gorgeous day (and even slightly warm) here today.  I should be outside but the scrap room is beckoning.  We are having a catchup weekend with friends and have had people for tea the last two nights and again tonight so I have spent a bit of time in the kitchen but not too much - keeping it simple.

A Long Weekend & DD Class projects

Hope your Queen's Birthday Weekend is going well (if in NZ).  I am enjoying the company of two of my DD's and DGS although one daughter had to return home for sport today. 

I was checking the HELMAR blog and guess what - I was a winner of their May Challenge so that was a nice surprise.

Consequently no scrapping opportunities but maybe tomorrow so in the mean time here are the projects from Donna Downey's Timaru classes a fortnight ago. First a mixed media canvas - lots of fun and I am looking forward to having another go at this style.

 I used a photo of '4 Generations' - I am the child being held by my Grandmother, then there is Mum and my Great Gran. 

The second project is a 'Vintage Shabby Chic' Mini album for which I used a theme of my Mum and her best friend and sister-in-law who sadly passed away almost 16 years ago.

 The right hand pages were the pages from Donna's class and the left are ones which I have added myself. 

 Below left - I had a play of masking onto the calico (need to gesso it first). 

 I haven't quite finished the album yet as I am waiting on another photo but the last page is a memorial page.  I felt the angel wings we were given to work with lent itself to this.

It was an enjoyable inspiring weekend.

Memorabilia and a new page

It feels like a Friday night tonight, instead of Tuesday with the day off for Anzac Day tomorrow.  Term 2 begun yesterday so I have had an extremely busy two days having to fit 5 days work into 4 but that's okay - they have been a good two days so far.

 

Tomorrow we will remember those who fought for us during the wars.  At this time of year I always get out my scrapbook pages of my father-in-law and grandfather-in-law which contain their involvement in both WW1 AND WW2 and also another book which records the involvement of my grandfathers in the Home Guard, a young cousin who served overseas twice and a Great Uncle who did not return from WW2.  If you wish to see my memorabilia war pages posted last Anzac Day they can be found here.

 Today I share another page from last week's creations.  I spotted an embroidered Prima Page at Embellish It (on sale) and thought I would give it a go.  I had avoided these pages in the past as I felt they were so decorated already it was a shame to cover them up however I have concentrated my photos on pieces which did not have much stitching and this is what I came up with.

 The paper was a 'Sew Cute' Specialty paper from Prima.  I see it was made in Thailand (a coincidence - these photos were taken in Thailand). Flowers are Prima with a touch of Petaloo and Kaiser.

 The window and photo corners are also prima. 

 Alpha - American Crafts.

I felt the colours of the paper complemented the robe in which the bridesmaid is wearing while she is getting ready for the big day.

Well I should be in my scrap room creating with some more Prima - Fairy Belle Range.  I am working on a layout for the Embellish It Crop on Saturday.  So bye for now....

Memorabilia and Autumn

These were the two components to include in the Birds of a Feather Craft Together Sketch Challenge for June.  Also the challenge is to scrap something from the previous month.  I loved the sketch Sonya and Carol provided.  I am sure they would love you to join in - It is not too late to have a go. 

 The birthday celebration we were invited to was perfect as the invite included memorabilia (a childhood pic of the birthday boy) and doubled as the When, Where, Why part of the journalling.  Papers are Prima. 

 I was also in the team which won the most points - the flag was made by rubbing rub-ons onto canvas and mounting on a toothpick. The flower below made from organza ribbon was one left from the Embellish It Raincliff Retreat where we had a 'Make & Take' of making a variety of flowers.

 The tag contains hidden journalling about the entertainment "The Amazing Race".  Also included is a little Dusty Attic.

 An assortment of autumn coloured flowers and leaves covered the 'Autumn' part of the challenge.

Anzac Day and Memorabilia

Today in NZ and Australia we remember those served our countries during war times.  Today I am sharing some layouts I created back in 2006, in my 2^nd year of scrapbooking, so they are a bit different to the styles of today however I am still pleased with the way they are and the history they hold. 

With any old memorabilia, I am fortunate enough have, I always feel that I am the custodian of the precious items so always copy or replicate the items to use on my scrapbooking pages.  

 With this first layout of my DH’s grandfather in WW1, I scanned his medals and then cut them out of the photo (with a craft knife), and then did the bravery medal he received separately to embellish the page with the newspaper cutting of the story of how he was awarded it.  The photo on the left was cropped from the photo on the right and reversed so that it was the right orientation on the page.  The gold tin was also in his memorabilia and contained a bullet which was presented as a commemoration token so this too is scanned.  The right page contains a copy of his discharge certificate under vellum was printed and embossed with his name, barb wire and poppy and then the cut out medals attached.  The certificate can be pulled out for closer inspection but does not impact the page too much.  The postcards are copies and on the back I transcribed the words from the back of the postcards.   

 The 2^nd layout is of my father-in-law’s involvement in WW2 for which we have a lot more memorabilia.  

  On the left page I used a pocket system to hold the copied items including his ship tag envelope which I copied and replicated, discharge certificate, details of his war involvement typed on a card, some mounted photos telling of some unfortunate times, a copied postcard and a replica of the telegram family received about his impending return.  The pocket also contains a replicated pay book which I copied in colour, glued together and made a replica cover.  On the right hand page are photos in filmstrips are of his time in Egypt – he left NZ a robust man, and the photos show his loss of condition during his time away.  He returned home a sick man.    Also included are his scanned medals, a photo pre war with his new wife in the corner (they were married on his final leave) and some Anzac poppies and postage stamps.  

'Lest we Forget' those who served, and those who were not lucky enough to return.
